Mosqueda and National Hispanic County Officials Issue Letter Slamming Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” Due to Devastating Impact to Critical County Services

June 12, 2025

King County Councilmember Teresa Mosqueda, District 8, joined a group letter from the National Association of Hispanic County Officials (NAHCO) concerning the stunning lack of regard for the middle and working classes posed by Donald Trump’s so-called “Big Beautiful Bill.”

Mosqueda, an active member of NAHCO, signed onto the statement Thursday, which details the litany of injustices posed by H.R. 1, a tax and spending bill. If passed by the U.S. Senate, the legislation would cut vital federal services that are essential to millions of Americans. This includes $344 billion that would be cut from Medicaid over 10 years, $295 billion from SNAP and other related programs, and $132 billion from the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Marketplace.

“NAHCO opposes the One Big Beautiful Bill Act because it will remove vital programs, increase the uninsured population, stop people from receiving SNAP benefits, make higher education more inaccessible, hurt immigrant communities, weaken the justice system, make climate change worse, and ultimately make the middle and working class poorer,” Mosqueda states in the letter. “NAHCO will continue to support access to higher education, addressing environmental justice, ensuring due process for everyone, advocating for immigrant rights, and expanding affordable healthcare to everyone.”

Even with these cuts and reduced government spending, the bill will add $2.4 trillion to the national debt over 10 years, according to analysis conducted by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.

The NAHCO letter also points to dozens of other critical issues posed by the bill. Read the full statement here.
