Councilmember Steffanie Fain Appointed to Sound Transit Board by Executive Girmay Zahilay

December 4, 2025

Executive Girmay Zahilay has announced his appointment of King County Councilmember Steffanie Fain to the Sound Transit Board of Directors, where she will represent the residents and cities of South King County during a pivotal period of regional transit expansion and financial planning.

Councilmember Fain enters this role as the recently named Chair of the King County Council’s Transit, Economy, and Environment Committee and as the Chair of the Regional Transit Committee, positioning her at the center of key decisions shaping the future of transit across King County and the broader Sound Transit service area.

“I’m honored to serve on the Sound Transit Board and grateful to Executive Zahilay for the opportunity to represent South King County as we shape the future of transit,” said Councilmember Fain. “As Chair of the Council’s Transit, Economy, and Environment Committee, as well as the Regional Transit Committee, I’m committed to prioritizing safety, ensuring the long-term financial sustainability of Sound Transit, and meeting the growing needs of our transit-dependent communities in South King County. I look forward to working collaboratively to deliver a cohesive system that supports our residents, our workforce, and our local economy.”

Executive Zahilay’s appointment underscores the growing importance of South King County’s voice in regional transit planning as ridership increases, major capital projects move forward, and greater alignment between Metro Transit and Sound Transit becomes essential to creating a seamless experience for riders.

This appointment—and Councilmember Fain’s leadership roles across the Council’s transit committees—will allow her to help guide budget oversight, service integration, safety initiatives, and long-term planning, ensuring that King County families, workers, and businesses are central to the region’s transit future.
