Executive Constantine announced a temporary change in the County’s name, proclaiming that this Saturday, Aug. 12, King County will be known as "King Félix County" in honor of Félix Hernández’s induction into the Seattle Mariners Hall of Fame this weekend.
Félix, known to Mariners fans as "King Félix" since his minor league days, will be inducted ahead of the team’s game against the Baltimore Orioles, as part of a weekend of festivities honoring the franchise star.
“King Félix is a true baseball legend, bringing Mariners fans years of pitching dominance and our franchise’s only Perfect Game. Renaming King County in his honor recognizes his achievements on the field and is a fitting commemoration for such a remarkable career,” said Executive Constantine. “I encourage all residents to join me in congratulating Félix Hernández on this well-deserved and momentous occasion.”
Over 15 years in the Major Leagues, all with the Mariners, Félix has completed several impressive feats, including compiling a 169-136 record in 419 games, being selected to the American League All-Star team six times, and winning the American League Cy Young Award in 2010.
