Closed landfill environmental monitoring
- Groundwater Protection: Beneath the surface lies a network of monitoring wells designed to safeguard groundwater quality. These wells are regularly sampled for contaminants, including heavy metals and organic compounds. By tracking changes in groundwater chemistry, we can detect and address potential impacts from the landfill.
- Methane Control: Beneath the surface, decomposing organic matter generates methane gas. To mitigate methane emissions, our closed landfill employs gas collection systems to capture, treat and safely vent methane to the atmosphere or utilize it as a renewable energy source. By harnessing methane, we reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.
- Surface Water Protection: Adjacent water bodies are carefully monitored to ensure they remain free from contamination. Regular sampling and analysis assess the quality of surface water, identifying any potential impacts from runoff. Through proactive monitoring and pollution prevention measures, we safeguard the health of aquatic ecosystems and recreational areas.
- Green space: With environmental systems in place, closed landfill sites can offer passive outdoor space where community members can enjoy nearby walking trails, birdwatching, or a picnic.
