NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

2026-0160

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a public hearing before the Metropolitan King County Council will be held at the King County Courthouse, 516 3rd Avenue Room 1001, on the 8th day of September 2026, at 1:30 p.m. to consider the adoption of Proposed Ordinance 2026-0160, which would, beginning January 1, 2027, increase the disposal fees at County waste facilities for solid waste disposal and modify how fees are reduced during unanticipated facilities closures. Remote public testimony on Zoom will also be accepted. Written public testimony will be accepted from 9 a.m. on August 28, 2026, through 10 a.m. on September 8, 2026, by sending such public testimony to clerk.council@kingcounty.gov. SUMMARY

Proposed Ordinance 2026-0160 would, effective January 1, 2027, increase:

•Fees to accept solid waste, yard and clean wood waste, major appliances with refrigerants, mattresses, and special wastes by between 8% and 9% depending on the material;

•The amount of the Fixed-Annual Charge from approximately $26.8 million to $29.1 million, an increase of 8.5%; and

•The low-income discount from $20.00 to $22.00 per entry.

Additionally, the proposed ordinance would modify how fees are reduced for haulers during unanticipated facility closures.

Final Action:

Prior to final action, Councilmembers may offer amendments for consideration by the Council, including any amendments relating to topics discussed at committee. Persons wishing to testify on the Proposed Ordinance should attend the public hearing in person or remotely on September 8, 2026, or provide testimony in writing prior to the hearing.
