King County Executive Dow Constantine today appointed Megan Clarke – a highly experienced and well-regarded business leader – to serve as Chief Information Officer and oversee King County’s Department of Information Technology (KCIT).

“Megan has an exceptional background and the expertise to lead King County’s Department of Information Technology,” said Executive Constantine. “We look forward to her leadership as our dedicated employees continue to bring innovative solutions and the power of technology to digitally transform King County.”

Clarke, originally from the Seattle area, brings nearly 20 years of experience in the CIO field, coming to King County from the City of Burbank, California, where she served as the Assistant CIO. She has previously served in the role of CIO with Stanford University, University of Southern California, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (The Oscars), and The National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (The GRAMMYs).

“I am honored to be joining King County in this role and excited to continue the great work of KCIT on behalf of the county's residents, community partners, and employees,” said Clarke. “It is my belief that when technology rests on a foundation of service and partnership, it offers extraordinary opportunities for connection, collaboration, communication, and innovation. We have many extraordinary experiences ahead.”

For the past nine months David Mendel, Director of the Emergency Radio Communications Division, served as Interim CIO. Mendel will now move into the role of Interim Deputy CIO to ensure a smooth transition and continuity at KCIT.

“David has provided steady leadership as interim CIO during this transition and King County has benefitted from his deep understanding of KCIT services and delivery,” said Executive Constantine. “I want to thank him for his leadership during the past nine months and look forward to working together with him as Interim Deputy CIO.”

Clarke’s first day will be January 3 and her appointment is subject to approval by the King County Council.
