Older Adults and their Caregivers
Adult Services Division
The Adult Services Division provides supports for seniors and their caregivers in King County through funding strategies and partnerships designed to promote healthy, financially stable, and socially engaged lives. We fund programs at seniors centers and other community organizations that expand outreach for isolated seniors and connect seniors to community services throughout King County.
King County is investing in programs specifically designed to improve the quality of life for our local seniors and their families. Thanks to King County voters, we are making healthy aging a priority, and the support we’re providing for these senior centers will significantly increase access to services for older adults throughout the region.
VSHSL-Funded Suite of Senior Services:
Together Senior Hubs, Virtual Villages, Evidence-Based Senior Health Promotion, the Senior Mobile Medical Outreach Program and Kinship Care Supports create a suite of senior services funded by the Veterans, Seniors and Human Services Levy (VSHSL). The programs were thoughtfully created to complement each other to provide King County’s seniors with a robust range of services that aim to promote physical and emotional health and well-being, reduce isolation, foster connection to community, and provide a range of culturally appropriate services.
Senior Hubs serve as recognized resource centers on aging services and provide support, outreach, connection, and opportunities for social engagement to elders throughout King County. Senior Hubs are divided into geographic or cultural hubs, paying particular attention to seniors who are isolated and/or who have had less access to senior center connections in the past. Each Senior Hub brings a unique approach to serving seniors in King County.
Virtual Villages or senior centers without walls reflect a community-based approach to aging in place that recognizes and relies on the concepts of community, belonging and interdependence and seeks to build personal and community resilience. Through a network of community and neighbor-to-neighbor engagement, Virtual Villages will support seniors to age well in their communities.
Evidence-Based Senior Health Promotion programs provide evidence-based and evidence-informed health promotion programs for a diverse range of senior communities – in particular, communities experiencing health and health care disparities based on race, ethnicity and geography. Programs will address falls prevention, physical activity, healthy eating, chronic disease management, social connectedness, behavioral health, and other health issues relevant to the senior populations being served.
Senior Mobile Medical Outreach Program expands Public Health-Seattle & King County’s Mobile Medical program to create a new mobile outreach program specifically for low-income seniors, providing patient-led health and social services, meeting seniors where they are and fostering health and well-being.
Kinship Care Supports provides supports to senior kinship caregivers who are 55 and older to help them be successful in their roles and increase their ability to maintain their health and well-being.
