Balducci applauds milestone $7.5M investment in Eastrail
Summary
King County Council Chair Claudia Balducci on Monday issued a statement following the announcement of a major investment.
Story
With news Monday that the 42-mile Eastrail regional trail project received a major investment of $7.5 million from Amazon to help complete transformation of the Wilburton Trestle into a multi-purpose elevated trail, as well as the nearby Wilburton Trail Segment that closes an essential trail gap in Bellevue, King County Council Chair Claudia Balducci on Monday issued the following statement:
“Trails do more than just take us to places we need to go. They make our lives better in so many ways. Eastrail is already a place where people connect to each other, walk their dogs, and enjoy time out in nature in the middle of our bustling cities. This completed trail will tie in to East Link light rail and knit key destinations together, multiplying the ways in which our trails connect people to education, jobs and opportunity. With its investment in the future today, Amazon joins the list of corporate contributors to Eastrail, including REI, Facebook and Group Health (now Kaiser Permanente)*, and it illustrates how effective we can be when government and the private sector work in concert.”
Note: This post has been updated to reflect that a former investment in Eastrail came from Group Health, which later became a part of Kaiser Permanente.
