Council Selects David Scalabrini to Fill King County Fire Protection District No. 37 Vacancy

The King County Council appointed David Scalabrini on September 3rd to fill a vacant seat on the King County Fire Protection District No. 37 Commission. Commissioner Scalabrini was sworn in this morning. 

The Commission was unable to fill the vacancy before a mandated 90-day deadline, thus requiring the King County Council to fill the vacancy. Shortly after the missed deadline, the Commission interviewed Mr. Scalabrini and recommended that the King County Council appoint him. Mr. Scalabrini’s application also included a support letter from City of Covington Mayor Jeff Wagner. 

“David brings to this position a strong commitment to bettering his community,” said King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn. “I am grateful for his willingness to serve as Commissioner and thank him for stepping up to fill the roll.”

“I’m pleased that the King County Council has selected David to serve as a commissioner for FD 37. Davis has a strong record of serving his community and will utilize his experiences and background to best serve the people of Covington and surrounding communities,” said Joy Ratigan, Chair of the Board of Commissioners for FD37 and member of Puget Sound Fire Governance Board.

“We are fortunate that David has stepped up in this way to serve our community. I have no doubt that he will be an invaluable member of this commission,” said Margaret Harto, Chairperson of the Puget Sound Fire Governance Board and Commissioner of the King County Fire District No. 37. 

“David is the right guy for the job and I’m pleased the King County Council has selected him for this role. I’m looking forward to the work we will be able to get done next year and beyond to ensure quality and responsive fire services to our community,” said Brian Carson, Fire Chief of the Puget Sound Fire Authority.

Scalabrini is a long-time resident of the Fire District No. 37 and lives in the City of Covington. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from University of Puget Sound in Politics, Government and Public Administration. He has stated that he has a deep commitment to serving his community and giving back. 

Commissioner Scalabrini will serve until the position is filled by election in November 2025.

King County Fire District No. 37 operates as a governing body that oversees essential fire services provided by the Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority to Covington and adjacent areas of unincorporated King County. The District is governed by an elected, three-member Board of Commissioners who also serve on the Puget Sound Fire Authority Governance Board.
