Each for-hire transportation driver in King County and Seattle must have a license or permit issued by King County.   TNC drivers: TNCs submit an application for a For-Hire Driver Permit on behalf of each of their affiliated drivers when the driver first signs up with the TNC and annually thereafter. Taxicab and flat-rate for-hire vehicle drivers: Each driver applies for a Regional For-Hire Driver's License directly with King County for the first license and for each annual renewal thereafter. Taxicab and flat-rate for-hire vehicle drivers (Enhanced option): Drivers have the option to apply for an Enhanced Regional For-Hire Driver's License or update a Regional For-Hire Driver's License to Enhanced, which requires the driver to pass a fingerprint-based background check in addition to all the Regional For-Hire Driver's License requirements.
