Ordinance 20041
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that a public hearing will be held before the Metropolitan King County Council on April 21, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. The purpose of this public hearing is to receive public testimony relating to Ordinance 20041, which adopted findings in support of, and adopted for one year, a moratorium prohibiting the establishment of new or expansion of existing detention facilities, and required a study to address the issues and circumstances necessitating the moratorium.
The public hearing will be held at the King County Courthouse, 516 3rd Avenue, Room 1001, Seattle. Remote public testimony on Zoom will also be accepted. Written public testimony will be accepted from 9 a.m. on March 20, 2026, through 10 a.m. on April 21, 2026, by sending such public testimony to clerk.council@kingcounty.gov. Please include the legislation number and related agenda item in the subject line. Background
Ordinance 20041 was adopted on March 3, 2026. A public hearing within sixty days of the enactment of a moratorium and the adoption of findings is required by RCW 36.70A.390. This hearing is opportunity for public testimony on the moratorium.
