Gossett expects Metro to brief Council committee on steps to protect transit users
Summary
Supports Executive’s review of transit policy restricting security guards
Story
Metropolitan King County Councilmember Larry Gossett, chair of the Council’s Regional Transit Committee, today released this statement on the assault that occurred in the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel January 28:“I applaud Executive Constantine’s ordering of a review of Metro Transit’s policy restricting security guards from intervening to help the victim of a crime. And I expect that at next week’s Regional Transit Committee meeting Metro General Manager Kevin Desmond will brief the committee on the incident and the steps Metro and all other appropriate agencies are exploring to ensure this won’t happen again. Protecting the more than 100 million passengers who ride Metro every year and wait for the bus in Metro facilities is our top priority.”
