Ferguson: “Judge González an excellent choice for state Supreme Court”

Governor Christine Gregoire announced today the appointment of King County Superior Court Judge Steven González to the Washington State Supreme Court. Judge González will succeed Justice Gerry Alexander, who is retiring at the end of this year. Judge González’s appointment is historic in that he will be the first Latino to serve on the state Supreme Court.In response to the Governor’s announcement, Metropolitan King County Councilmember Bob Ferguson, Chair of the King County Council’s Law, Justice, Health and Human Services Committee released this statement:
“Judge González is a well-respected jurist whose depth of knowledge and strong ethics will serve the people of Washington State well.
“I have had the opportunity to work with Judge González on issues related to ensuring equal access to justice and addressing racial disparities in the criminal justice system, and I was impressed by his thoughtfulness.
“Governor Gregoire made an excellent and historic choice by selecting Judge González.”
