King County, the city of Seattle’s Office for Civil Rights, University of Washington’s Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity and Antioch University will celebrate Black History Month by welcoming Rev. Dr. Bernard LaFayette Jr., one of the preeminent authorities on non-violent social change:

Dr. LaFayette was a co-founder of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, and a leader on the Freedom Rides. The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. appointed Dr. LaFayette National Program Administrator for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) and National Coordinator of the 1968 Poor Peoples’ Campaign.

Dr. LaFayette will integrate the Kingian Principles of Nonviolence, based on the principles and methods of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., community organizing and engagement, and implementation of the Poor People’s Campaign into the City of Seattle’s and King County’s Race and Social Justice and Equity and Social Justice efforts.

Seattle’s Mt. Zion Baptist Church will also host Dr. LaFayette for a public event where he will share strategies and present his historical perspective to help improve the quality of life for all our residents:
