Councilmember Dunn delivers “retired” County van to Enumclaw High School Transition Program

Metropolitan King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn today handed the keys over of a retired County van to the Transition Program of Enumclaw High School.

“EHS’ Transition Program serves a vital community within not only the school, but the whole school district,” said Dunn. “It was great to work with the school in providing the vehicle, which now goes into its ‘Golden years’ filling an important need and for these students.”

The Transition Program provides for high school special education students a coordinated set of activities working towards the student’s post-secondary goals.

“On behalf of the Transition Program and the Enumclaw High School, I would like to thank Councilmember Dunn for the generous donation of the van,” said Enumclaw School District Superintendent Mike Nelson. “The County is providing a valued commodity to our program and the students in the Transition Program will greatly benefit from its use.”

“It is rewarding to see the County and the school district working together to get the most out of the resources we have available,” said Mayor of Enumclaw Liz Reynolds. “I would like to thank Councilmember Dunn for making this handover possible and for giving this van to such a great program and great group of students.”

The retired vans have been part of Metro Transit’s vanpool fleet for at least six years and have reached the end of their service life. When the vans reach this age, they are considered surplus. The vehicles that are not donated are sold.

Since 1995, the County Council has been donating retired vans from Metro’s Vanpool program to local nonprofit organizations to provide transportation for the disabled, low-income, young adults, and senior citizens.
