Metropolitan King County Councilmember Jeanne Kohl-Welles will hold a special meeting to update district residents on the work being done to restore King County’s West Point Treatment plant back to full capacity:

“This was a catastrophic failure,” said Kohl-Welles. “This is a chance for the public to hear what went wrong, what’s being done to fix the problem and what will done to make sure this never happens again.”

On February 9, a breakdown at the West Point Wastewater Treatment Plant during heavy storm flows caused the facility to discharge untreated wastewater/stormwater directly into Puget Sound. While the facility is back online, it is not operating at full capacity. Councilmember Kohl-Welles will be joined by Mark Isaacson, the Division Director of the County’s Wastewater Treatment Division (WTD) and WTD staff to brief the community on the mechanical issues at the facility and the work being done to complete repairs and get the plant back to full operation.
