King County Solid Waste Seeks Public Input

Summary

Algona Transfer Station is in Design Phase

Story

King County Solid Waste has entered into its design phase for the new Algona Transfer Station and is seeking members of the community to help participate in the design of the station.

Located at 35101 W. Valley Hwy. S., the new transfer station will replace the current aging Algona Station with a larger, easy-to-use facility with convenient recycling, yard waste, garbage services and hazardous waste disposal to better serve south county communities.

“This is an opportunity to help shape the design of a modern facility that will better serve the community with more recycling options and improved services,” said Metropolitan King County Councilmember Pete von Reichbauer, who represents South King County. “The prior station was built in the 1960s so this is a chance for community members to put their stamp on a facility for generations to come.”

The role of the Design Advisory Group (DAG) is to review technical documents, comment on design options to influence decision-making, act as a sounding board for the project technical team, and serve as liaison to the public and stakeholders. Members will be asked to commit to meet once per quarter from now through December 2019 at the Algona-Pacific Library from 6-8 p.m. Light snacks will be provided, as well as child-care, interpreters and translation services, if needed.
