Dunn Urges President to Approve National Designation for Mountains to Sound Greenway

Today’s adoption by the U.S. House of Representatives of a massive public lands bill that includes a designation for the Mountains to Sound Greenway as a National Heritage Area means the only thing between opening the Greenway’s 1.5 million acres to federal funding opportunities that will help conserve the land is the President’s signature.

Councilmember Reagan Dunn has issued the following statement urging the President to approve the legislation, which was approved with overwhelming bipartisan support:

“The Mountains to Sound Greenway is truly one of the crown jewels of the Pacific Northwest and the United States. As our region continues to grow so rapidly, it is especially critical that we take the necessary steps to preserve the natural beauty that makes our region so special. I strongly urge the President to sign this bill into law, and conserve this wealth of public land for generations to come.”

In 2012, Councilmember Dunn cosponsored a motion unanimously adopted by the County Council urging Congress to recognize the Greenway. Last April, after an invitation from former Congressman Dave Reichert, Dunn traveled to Washington, D.C. to speak in support of the National Heritage Area designation.
