Story

Today, Metropolitan King County Council Vice Chair Reagan Dunn announced that nine community projects in the greater Renton area will receive a grant from King County’s Community Service Area (CSA) program to help fund their efforts within the East Renton Highlands and Fairwood. CSA grants provide matching funds to projects that foster community involvement in unincorporated King County.

“I’m glad to be able to help provide funding for these organizations that are working to build stronger communities,” said Dunn. “Their projects add life and vibrancy to our unincorporated neighborhoods, and it’s important to me to support their efforts.”

Nine projects have been awarded a total of $11,750 in funding, including:

  • The Four Creeks Unincorporated Area Council received three grants totaling $3,500 to support their emergency preparedness projects. With these funds, they’ll purchase handheld communication devices and a shed to store emergency supplies in a central location, and organize a National Night Out event to heighten crime prevention awareness.

"The Four Creeks Unincorporated Area Council is pleased to have received Community Service Area grants to fund our work to provide Neighborhood Emergency Response Radios, Neighborhood Emergency Response Storage Sheds and sponsorship of National Night Out Events,” said Peter Eberle, President of the Four Creeks Unincorporated Area Council. “These are great ways to promote community engagement and we thank our friends at King County for making these funding opportunities available."

  • The Woodside HOA received $1,500 to fund their Fairwood National Night Out event, which will take place in August 2019.

“This county funding is critical to our ability to put on our National Night Out event this August,” said Amanda Heins, member of the Woodside HOA Board of Directors. “Neighbors will be able to connect with one another, forging community bonds and relationships that will make us all safer, all while providing fun for the whole family!”

  • The Fairwood Greens HOA received $2,000 to support their annual Last Splash of Summer event.

“All of us who are planning the Last Splash of Summer event are grateful for this funding from King County, and we’re excited to continue to bring our community together!” said Bonnie Lyon, President of the Fairwood Greens HOA. “From the volunteers who engage our neighbors, to the efforts we make to help inform people about the event, this is a completely community-centered event. Thank you to King County for this support!”

In 2019, a total of $27,000 in CSA grants was distributed to community projects in Council District 9. These grants are awarded through a competitive application process, and must be used to support community-led projects that help unincorporated King County residents participate in and be more connected to their communities.

If you live in an unincorporated community and are interested in learning more about how to apply for future grant opportunities, please contact Councilmember Dunn’s office at Reagan.Dunn@kingcounty.gov.
