Lambert’s committee on community services plans for year ahead

Summary

Councilmember Kathy Lambert chaired the first meeting of the council's Community, Health and Housing Services Committee on Wednesday morning.

Story

Metropolitan King County Councilmember Kathy Lambert on Wednesday morning chaired the first meeting of the King County Community, Health and Housing Services Committee.

Lambert released the following statement after the meeting concluded:

“I am very excited to have the opportunity to chair this new committee, which will focus on providing critical services to those in need. We will have the opportunity to tackle topics including domestic violence facilitators, court navigators, community courts, and much more.

“We will also review programs that are available to support individuals released from the jail or are high utilizers of the jail in order to work to stop the revolving door between incarceration, the hospital, and living on the streets.

“The committee will focus on public health, affordable and low-income housing, human services programs, and economic development.

“In today’s meeting, we heard a presentation on the success of the community court program. I am proud that three community courts are in place in King County, and I hope to see more of them implemented county-wide.

“This committee will have a great opportunity to really help those in need in King County, and I looking forward to leading this work throughout the year.”
