Kohl-Welles Confirmed to Lead Budget Committee in 2020
Summary
Councilmember Jeanne Kohl-Welles was confirmed to lead the budget committee during a year that will see the development and approval of the county's biennial budget.
Story
King County Councilmember Jeanne Kohl-Welles was elected Wednesday to chair the Budget and Fiscal Management Committee for 2020. She will also serve as vice chair for the Community, Health and Housing Services Committee.
“I look forward to working with my colleagues on the council in this new role as Chair of the Budget and Fiscal Management Committee,” Kohl-Welles said. “Our county faces many challenges from homelessness and housing affordability to affordable transit access and climate change. However, these challenges provide us as an elected body the opportunity to implement meaningful policies aimed at making our county a better place to live. I’m excited to continue my work for another term serving the constituents of District Four and all the residents of Martin Luther King County.”
The Budget and Fiscal Management Committee is charged with recommending and approving county revenue and spending. The committee also deals with labor agreements, supplemental budgets, and other fiscal policies that impact King County.
As chair of the Budget and Finance Committee, Kohl-Welles – who represents District 4 – will be the lead in crafting a biennial budget that funds the county equitably and responsibly.
In her role as vice-chair of the Community, Health and Housing Services Committee, she will continue her work to address affordable housing in our region and strengthen services for our most vulnerable populations.
Kohl-Welles will also serve as a member of the Council’s Mobility and Environment Committee, Law and Justice Committee, Employment and Administration Committee, and the Committee of the Whole.
