King County Councilmember Claudia Balducci released the following statement Friday after the state Supreme Court ruled to uphold the constitutionality of the state’s capital gains tax:

“In a state with one of the most regressive tax systems in the country, we overburden workers with the lowest incomes, particularly seniors and families who are the least able to make ends meet. Efforts like the capital gains tax are a step toward spreading the burden of paying for essential services like education, public safety and transportation more equitably. I applaud the decision of the State Supreme Court recognizing the constitutionality of a fairer tax system.”
