King County Stormwater Management Action Plan
Stormwater is one of the largest sources of pollution for our creeks and rivers, Puget Sound. Too much at once can erode or flood properties, and not enough can limit groundwater sources.
With communities, we are planning for climate impact, development, aging infrastructure and community needs.
Every year we ask for input on future plans: Please let us know your feedback to help shape this work. Comments submitted after March 31 will be considered for next year's program.
With your help, this will be a community-centered effort for areas of Unincorporated King County.
The current focus will be in the Skyway and the Taylor Creek sub-basin in King County (see map below).
We are developing the current Stormwater Management Action Plan (SMAP) by March 31, 2027 to meet the requirements of the Phase 1 Municipal Stormwater National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit. The SMAP will be developed for the Skyway area with a focus in the Taylor Creek sub-basin in King County.
The plan will include:
- Specific short-term actions – actions or projects to be accomplished within 6 years.
- Specific long-term actions – actions or projects to be accomplished within 20 years.
- Land management strategies and actions needed to keep water clean and address flooding.
- Targeted, enhanced, or customized implementation of stormwater management actions which include actions such as Illicit Discharge field screening, prioritized Source Control inspections, Operations and Maintenance inspections, and or Public Education and Outreach behavior change programs.
- A schedule and budget sources for the plan.
