Disposal guidance for households

  Accepted at hazardous waste collection sites

Lead-based paint and paint chips are accepted at hazardous waste collection sites. Painted objects and soil are not accepted. 

Before transporting, double bag all paint chips and seal bags with duct tape.

  • All containers must be 5 gallons or less
  • Total waste limit: 50 gallons per trip

Warning:

Lead is toxic, especially for infants and small children. The most common source of lead poisoning is lead-based paint which is found on houses and buildings built prior to 1978.
