Title of proposal: Raging River State Forest Biosolids Program
Description of proposal: The King County Wastewater Treatment Division proposes to apply biosolids to Raging River State Forest lands in King County, Washington. The total project area is approximately 15 square miles. The purpose of this project is to use biosolids (the treated, stabilized, solid product of municipal wastewater treatment) for fertilization and ecosystem enhancement. Forest stands selected to receive biosolids will include thinned timber stands and young forest plantations. Forest applications recycle the nutrients from the biosolids while increasing the rate of tree growth, reducing soil erosion, and improving soil nutrient status. Biosolids production and application are federally regulated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under 40 CFR Part 503, and by the Washington State Department of Ecology under Washington Administrative Code (WAC) 173-308. The project is scheduled to begin in the Fall of 2025.
Location of proposal, including street address, if any: Raging River State Forest is located in King County, WA, south of Interstate 90 and east of State Route 18, in Township 23N, Range 7E, Sections 1, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 27, 35, and 36, and Range 8E, Sections 6, 7, 18, 19, 20, 29, 30, and 32. The project area comprises 54 parcels, and approximate coordinates of the center of the project area are 47.472° N latitude and 121.859° W longitude.
