Story
Statement issued by local elected leaders from across the state:
"Climate change is the great generational challenge of our time, with fundamental consequences for our economy, environment, public health, and safety.
"Strong action is needed now to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and that is why, as elected officials, we strongly support Governor Inslee’s action on climate and clean energy, including his call for limits and a price on carbon pollution; for a commitment to address potential impacts on vulnerable populations and communities; and for investments in energy efficiency, renewable energy, and clean transportation solutions.
"As elected officials, we are taking action—both independently and through initiatives such as the King County-Cities Climate Collaboration (K4C)—on ambitious commitments to reduce climate pollution. Only through broader state and federal action can we hope to achieve the scale of carbon reductions that can make a difference. We thank Governor Inslee for his leadership at the state level, and we look forward to engaging in discussion of his proposal."
