The State Auditor's Office today issued an accountability audit of King County which shows that in those areas it examined, the County’s financial practices were in compliance with state and local laws and regulations – the first time the County has had a "no finding" audit since 2007.

“It takes an incredible amount of effort and discipline to have an audit come back with no findings,” said Executive Dow Constantine. “This outcome shows how hard our employees work to be responsible financial stewards and maintain the public’s trust.”

Each year, the State Auditor's Office conducts an accountability audit that is used to assess the County's level of compliance with state and local laws and to review the strength of the County's internal financial control policies and procedures. The audit report released today covers the time period from June 1, 2012 through June 30, 2013.

"Audits are very time consuming, which is why we worked closely with the State Auditor's team to be highly efficient, and the end result was an audit completed right on schedule," said Ken Guy, finance director for King County. "I commend our King County staff for being responsive throughout the process, and I want to thank the State Auditor’s team for their professionalism.”

King County has an Executive Audit Committee that is responsible for ensuring strong internal controls, and sets the tone for the fiscal discipline expected by the State Auditor. The Committee is taking action to implement several helpful recommendations for further strengthening financial procedures made by the Auditor's Office.
