Executive Constantine praises President Obama for taking action on immigration
Story
"I applaud the President’s action to help millions of undocumented immigrants, including those here in King County. This is much-needed leadership to address our nation’s broken immigration policy. With his executive order the President is creating a degree of certainty and security for those men, women, and children who came to our country seeking opportunities to succeed.
“I also appreciate the President’s distinction that will focus immigration enforcement on criminals, rather than on children and families. Our own policy at the King County Jail supports that distinction by honoring detainers from the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement if they come with a criminal warrant signed by a judge.
“In King County we embrace our diversity as a strength – it’s our rich diversity of cultures from around the world that has made us one of the most prosperous regions in the United States. Everyone in our region should have the opportunity to succeed and thrive based on his or her merits, and that extends to those who were born elsewhere. Tonight, thanks to the President’s leadership, fewer people in our community will live under fear of unreasonable deportation.”
