Executive Constantine appoints Rachel Smith as his new Director of Government Relations

Summary

King County Executive Dow Constantine today named Rachel Smith as his new Director of Government Relations.

Story

King County Executive Dow Constantine today named Rachel Smith as his new Director of Government Relations, for coordination of the County’s state and federal legislative issues. Smith begins in her new position on November 17.

Smith comes to the Executive’s office from Sound Transit, where she served as Government and Community Relations Officer, working with elected officials and stakeholders on a wide range of issues in both King and Pierce Counties.

"The work of King County is critical to the Central Puget Sound region, and I am delighted to be joining Executive Constantine's administration," said Smith. "The County works best when partnering with our colleagues at the local, regional, state, and federal levels, and I am excited to be part of that team."

Prior to Sound Transit, Smith served as a policy advisor to Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels, and did advocacy work for Transportation Choices Coalition.

Smith succeeds Genesee Adkins, who served Executive Constantine for five years and who was named today as Director of State Relations for the University of Washington.
