Executive Constantine thanks state House for passing key funding for local homelessness efforts

Summary

King County Executive Dow Constantine released the following statement on the passage of HB 1570

Story

King County Executive Dow Constantine today thanked the state House of Representatives for passing HB 1570, which extends and increases recording fees and surcharges on some real estate related documents to fund local homelessness programs. Set to sunset next year, the fees represent almost half of all state funds to help people transition off the streets into housing.

Document recording fees provide about $10 million to fight homelessness in King County. HB 1570 eliminates the sunset provision and also allows the King County Council to increase funding by about $15 million annually.

"At King County, we are focused on helping people find a place to call their own, and to live securely in their homes and communities. I appreciate the work of Rep. Nicole Macri and the state House of Representatives to extend this vital funding and I hope the state Senate follows suit. Homelessness is a regional challenge, but we have the programs, accountability and commitment to make a difference," said Executive Constantine.
