King County is hosting three live virtual panels with local community leaders, equity experts and small business owners as part of a conversation series called "12 Arguments for Change." Beginning on Thursday, September 10 and continuing on September 15 and 17, King County Executive Dow Constantine will moderate these panel discussions to identify how we create a sustainable, equitable recovery for King County into 2021 and beyond.

Each panel will have a unique set of speakers with backgrounds ranging from healthcare to community-based nonprofits, small business owners, racial and social justice activists, educators, and more.

Panel 1 on September 10 will focus on identifying the key gaps for the region to focus on during recovery. The panelists are:

• Dr. Benjamin S. Danielson, clinic chief at Seattle Children’s Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic
• Harpreet Dha, owner of Punjab Sweets
• Gordon McHenry Jr., president and CEO of United Way of King County
• Estela Ortega, executive director of El Centro de la Raza

Panel 2 on September 15 will address solutions to bridge the gaps identified in Panel 1. The panelists are:

• Nicole Grant, executive secretary-treasurer of MLK Labor
• Alyssa Macy, CEO of Washington Environmental Council and Washington Conservation Voters
• Sakara Remmu, emeritus chair of Black Lives Matter Seattle-King County
• Steven Severin, operations and booking at Neumos, Barboza and Life on Mars

Panel 3 on September 17 will discuss how to put those solutions into action and determine the roles of government, corporations and citizens in the path forward. The panelists are:

• Brian Carter, executive director of 4Culture
• Ana Mari Cauce, president of the University of Washington
• Lisa Daugaard, director of the Public Defender Association
• April Sims, secretary treasurer of the Washington State Labor Council

The public can register for free to tune into the hour-long conversations at 5 p.m. on September 10, 15 and 17. The panels will take live questions from the audience via Zoom and will also be available to view via Facebook Live.
