Lane closure on Coal Creek Parkway SE near Red Cedar Trailhead

King County’s contractor is continuing to prepare the Red Cedar Trailhead for active construction in Bellevue. Beginning as early as Monday, Sept. 22, the contractor will have a temporary, single lane closure on Coal Creek Parkway SE near the Red Cedar Trailhead entrance. This is required so the contractor can safely unload trucks that are transporting materials and equipment for staging at the Red Cedar Trailhead. This temporary lane closure will last at least one month, and traffic impacts are expected throughout the length of the project. We will provide timely updates on any changes to the expected traffic impacts going forward.

What to expect:

  • Traffic impacts: Expect traffic delays. At least one lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction. Flaggers will be present to direct traffic. Drivers and cyclists will share a lane when traveling through the work area and are advised to use caution.
  • Work hours: Permitted work hours for the lane closure are 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Friday.
  • Trailhead closure: The Red Cedar trailhead will remain closed to all public use during this work. Other trailheads in the area such as the Cinder Mine, Red Town, Coal Creek Family YMCA, and Forest Drive trailheads are available for trail users.
  • Tree removal: The contractor will remove some trees in the work area to stage materials and equipment. Remaining trees in the work area will be protected according to City of Bellevue standards. Trees outside of our work areas will not be removed. At the end of the project, the contractor will restore work areas and at least 3 new trees will be planted for every tree that was removed.
  • Noise: There will be typical construction noise near work areas.
