King County Volunteer Program

So, we're working to expand opportunities for King County residents to help when they can. 

Volunteer Corps

King County Volunteer Corps is a way for community members to step up and support urgent needs in our region.

Think of King County Volunteer Corps as a matchmaker. We connect :

  • Local organizations (nonprofits and King County agencies) that need volunteer help with

  • People interested in serving as volunteers for one-off events

Volunteer events may have specific requirements. But anyone with an email address can sign up for Volunteer Corps!

By signing up, you’ll join a list of neighbors who receive periodic, short email Calls to Action. Each will highlight an opportunity that you can immediately sign up for. 

Volunteer Corps members will be among the first people we turn to when our county needs an extra set of hands. This might mean helping restock a food bank running low on supplies. Or supporting community response efforts after a natural disaster.

Whenever we send out a Call to Action email to the Volunteer Corps, it will include detailed information about the event and link to register to volunteer. The number of Calls to Action sent will depend on the requests we receive for assistance. However, we expect to send no more than 1 to 2 emails per month.

Note: King County employees are welcome to join Volunteer Corps, but only in their personal capacity, using a personal email address.

Sign up as a nonprofit

To apply to be featured in a Volunteer Corps Call to Action email, nonprofit organizations must:

  • Be located in King County

  • Serve King County residents

  • Agree to terms outlined in the Nonprofit Volunteer Corps Call to Action Request form  

  • Complete and submit the Nonprofit Volunteer Corps Call to Action Request form 1 month in advance of your event  

We'll notify you as soon as possible if your event will be featured in a Call to Action.

How does King County Volunteer Corps work?

  1. Nonprofit requests help

    A qualified nonprofit or local King County agency completes the Nonprofit Volunteer Corps Call to Action Request form.

    The King County Volunteer Corps program will evaluate the requests for compliance with eligibility requirements, diversity of opportunities provided to the Volunteer Corps, connection to pressing community needs, and timing limitations.

    We'll notify nonprofits as soon as possible if their event will be featured in a Call to Action.

  2. Call to Action email sent

    The King County Volunteer Corps program will send a Call to Action email to our Volunteer Corps distribution list.

    The Call to Action email to the Volunteer Corps distribution list will contain:

    • Name of the organization hosting the volunteer event and contact information
    • Date and time of the event
    • Link for volunteer registration
    • Volunteer requirements or restrictions (like age or mobility)
    • Parking and accessibility information (including how to request accommodations)

  3. Volunteer event

     The volunteer event itself will be hosted and supervised by the nonprofit or King County agency.

Regional Days of Service

Regional Days of Service are large-scale coordinated days of service in different regions of King County hosted at various times through the year.

Our first Regional Day of Service will be Duwamish Alive! on Saturday, October 17. Please join the King County Executive to volunteer at the 20th Duwamish Alive! to protect and restore the Duwamish Watershed. This event is a collaborative effort between nonprofits and King County’s Department of Natural Resources and Parks.
