Observing Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day through service
King County will join the rest of the nation on January 18 in celebrating the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Congress designated the Martin Luther King Jr. Federal Holiday as a national day of service in 1994. It is the only federal holiday observed as a day of service and King County leaders today encouraged all residents to contribute their time and talents in some way this weekend to public service.

Inquest ordered into shooting death of Maurice Clemmons in connection with four Lakewood police homicides
King County Executive Dow Constantine today ordered an inquest into the shooting death of Maurice Clemmons by a Seattle police officer on December 1, 2009. Clemmons was confronted in the 4400 block of South Kenyon Street in South Seattle after a two-day manhunt for the killer of four Lakewood police officers in Pierce County.

Executive Constantine promotes action through philanthropy
In light of the earthquake disaster in Haiti, King County Executive Dow Constantine today signed an Executive Order allowing employees of King County government to donate accrued vacation time to Global Impact, a federation of 55 international aid organizations - many of which are already on the ground providing assistance in Haiti.
