Advisory opinions archive

When requested by a county officer or employee, or whenever it deems it to be in the public interest, the Board of Ethics renders written advisory opinions concerning questions of ethics, conflicts of interest, and the applicability of the Code of Ethics. This archive of advisory opinions is offered as a public service and reference. For information or guidance on your specific situation(s), please contact the Ethics Program.

NOTE: As the Code of Ethics has been amended several times, please contact the Ethics Program before relying on older opinions. In addition, the King County Code of Ethics was significantly altered in 2001, so advisory opinions issued prior to that date do not reflect these changes, and may reference previously numbered sections of the code. For reference to the new numbering system, see related footnotes at the bottom of affected pages of the Code of Ethics.
