Special operations

Deputies and detectives often need the support of specialized units to ensure their safety and the safety of the residents they serve.  Specialized units include TAC30 (formerly known as SWAT), hostage negotiation, bomb disposal, and more.  The need for these services has increased in the past few years due to threats of terrorism.

Most members of our specialized units are cross-trained to serve many functions.  For example, members of our TAC30 team have other primary assignments as traffic deputies, or firearms instructors.  This cross-training with other specialties means that the KCSO can provide many services with a limited number of personnel.  Also, we do not have to remove a deputy from answering 9-1-1 calls to participate in another mission.
